I first got the chance to work with Stephanie Kirby, the florist and mastermind behind The Blue Daisy Floral Designs, located in Pittsburgh, Pa, earlier this year for a styled bridal shoot I was putting together. She created a gorgeous black and white bouquet that was just to die for. (You can find the link to that shoot here.)
Recently, I was able to photograph her in her shop, which is painted blue, and so fitting for her business name. It was so fun being able to see her put together bouquets for an upcoming wedding- and I even learned a few secrets as to how she makes them! (Which…unfortunately, I was not allowed to photograph, haha.) If you’re looking for an amazing florist for your Pittsburgh wedding, you need to contact The Blue Daisy Floral Designs.
Tell us about your company! The Blue Daisy Floral Designs is a creative floral studio that focuses on weddings and events and emphasizes design with a natural feel. We are located in the North Hills and travel for weddings all over Pittsburgh and beyond. Our goal is that our clients are excited about their flowers and enjoy the process of working with us. We love love!
How did you get started in the wedding business? I have known that I wanted to open my own business all my life and through my education and career choices, it became apparent that being a florist was my calling. When I left my job in Philadelphia, a friend asked me if I would do his wedding flowers- he and his wife would be my first clients! From there it snowballed into more and more and I found that I absolutely loved working with couples to make the best day of their lives that much more special with flowers.
What makes your company different than other business in the field? I focus on weddings so my clients are my top priority. I provide a high level of service and put a personal touch on each wedding. By the end of a wedding my brides are often more like friends than clients. I also offer unique designs. We don’t reproduce photos from a catalog or sell “packages”. Every wedding is designed and tailored to each couple’s taste, style, and budget.
What type of bride would you be perfect for? A bride who cares and is excited about the flowers on her wedding day and is open to design suggestions and ideas. I find it hard to click with brides who say “If I didn’t have to have flowers, I wouldn’t.” This is my passion and I put my heart and soul into it. One of the best compliments I can receive is when a bride tells me after a consultation that she is really excited about what we’ve come up with!
From a vendor’s perspective, what is the best advice you can offer engaged couples? Choose vendors you trust! So often I hear of brides who go with vendors because theyare inexpensive or because they are their aunt’s best friend or similar and they just end up being frustrated and disappointed. If you hire the right team wedding planning is SO much less stressful!
Where do you find inspiration? Nature, mostly! I’m a horticulturalist by hobby and degree and gardening is my favorite pastime. My design style really reflects this as it tends to be very reminiscent of English gardens and bouquets picked from a beautiful landscape.
How can couple reach you?
